High, Low & Laughable

The high-low, asymmetrical skirt trend is definitely in full effect in Seattle and many other places all over the world. But is that a good thing? While some are head over heels in love I have been a bit skeptical about the whole idea.

This morning my boyfriend, Jeff and I decided to go to our favorite breakfast on Alki. During the week is always the best time to go. There isn’t a lot of people and we always are able to sit near a window that over looks the water. In all honesty,  it was quiet, peaceful and damn right romantic. So, regardless of the slight drizzle,  I ordered my first mimosa, looked out the window and took a moment to enjoy life. That was until a child and his mother walked in- they sat two tables away from us. Now, don’t get me wrong…I love children. I hope to have kids one day, but when your in the middle of a romantic gaze with your man and you can hear a child asking their mother about there green color crayon you can’t help but to lose focus. Romantic moment OVER. But it gets better.

Our food comes and I order ANOTHER mimosa because I couldn’t get enough of the first, and as I take a sip a young women walks in with a high-low dress and cardi. I was loving her outfit. For a moment, I thought this trend isn’t half bad. I might buy that belt she is wearing and… this adorable little boy cuts me off middle thought, stands up on his chair and yells at the top of his lungs, “MOOOMMY, somebody cut her skirt off.” He continues to point, “See. Seeee.”  I turned to Jeff and I almost bathed him in the mimosa from my mouth. Then I LITERALLY had to nudged him so he would stop snickering. The mother, which I assumed was very embarrassed, quickly apologized to the young lady, sat the boy down, and went back to eating her meal.

After Jeff pays, he leans over the counter and whispers in my ear. “It does look like someone forgot to finish her dress.”  This was the first time in the 5 years we had been together that I might actually consider taking him up on his fashion advice.

So the high-low trend is still up in the air for me, but what about you? What are your thoughts? Share your pictures, links & comments below.

  • I think this trend can look fabulous in the right style. I bought this dress because I thought the hi-lo really worked. And when hi-lo isn’t trendy any more, you cut off and hem the long section and poof! you have a classic dress you can keep for years!
